Fees and rebates
Consistent with practice recommendations for trauma-focused therapy, I prefer to offer 80-minute appointments, rather than the standard 50 minutes. During your initial therapy session with me – 80 minutes allows me enough time get a thorough understanding of your issues and concerns, discuss possible treatment options and answer any questions that arise.
It is my firm belief, and experience, that in trauma work a ‘therapeutic hour’ (which is actually 50 minutes) does not allow enough time to access, reprocess and successfully contain the traumatic experience. I don’t want to rush your treatment.
The current recommended fee by the Australian Psychological Society (APS) is $434 per 76 to 90-minute consultation.
Ilona’s session fee is $330 and sessions generally last for 80 minutes ($220 per hour).
Fees need to be paid on the day of the consultation (50% deposit for the first appointment is paid at the time of booking).
The centre is a private billing practice and therefore no bulk billing services are available.
Medicare and Private Health Insurance Rebates
Medicare offers rebates for psychological consultations. If you would like to receive a Medicare rebate – you need to visit your General Practitioner (GP) first and explain your mental health concerns. It is polite to book a longer consultation with your GP so that they have adequate time to develop a care plan with you. Your GP will give you a document called a “Mental Health Care Plan” and a letter of referral which entitles you to Medicare Rebates. All you need to do is bring these documents to your first consultation.
You can access up to 10 rebated sessions per calendar year (January to December). With a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you will receive a Medicare rebate of $92.90 per session.
Some private health insurance funds will provide rebates for psychological services, however it is advisable to check with your specific fund as to whether your ‘extras cover’ includes psychological services and the amount that this covers.
If you are eligible, you can choose to use either your private health insurance or Medicare to pay for psychological services you receive. You can only use one form of rebate.
Please give me a minimum of 48 hours notice in order to reschedule an appointment. Your deposit is non-refundable and, in the case of you rescheduling a session, is valid for 30 days.
When making a booking online – a deposit (50% of the total) will be necessary to secure your booking. The balance is due at the time of your appointment, where you can pay by EFTPOS credit or debit card. Fees are inclusive of all taxes.
My office is located in St Ives, Sydney’s Upper North Shore. Personally I don’t think there’s a nicer place to get the support you’re looking for.
My preference is to work with you on a weekly or fortnightly basis. The research has proven that regular therapy sessions increase your benefits. Ideally you’ll have a built-in place to unload your worries every week and you’ll learn how to handle new challenges with grace.
Your first session with me is a time for me to listen to the particular issues and concerns that bring you to my office. I will listen to your story and take the time to thoroughly assess exactly what it is that you are struggling with. We will then discuss your goals and I will answer any questions you may have. From there, we will discuss a plan for moving forward and scheduling of future appointments.
