I understand that seeing a therapist for the first time can make you feel a little nervous. My aim is to make this process as comfortable and stress free as possible. Here are the most common questions my clients ask – if there’s something else you’d like to know, please contact me.
Every person is different and there is no set answer to this question. The length of therapy will vary depending on your specific needs and circumstances. Some people come to therapy with a specific issue or concern, and brief solution-focused therapy may be the right fit. Often, that can last eight to ten sessions. Other people come to therapy to explore issues that run a little deeper. They might engage in therapy for several months or even years. You can trust that we will keep checking in throughout our work together to determine if you are still getting results.
Sometimes clients have been put off by therapy because it felt too overwhelming. When therapists move too fast, it can create problems for both the healing process and the client. It’s important that both the therapist and client understand the underlying issues, build better resources and a sense of safety first. Without taking the proper time, talking about one’s experience can lead clients further down the path towards harmful behaviour, depression, anxiety or even shame.
I offer a safe, compassionate environment which is the hallmark of trauma-informed therapy. My approach offers a method to make your past experience understandable and manageable to allow for hope, healing and a long-lasting change. If you have had a negative therapeutic experience in the past, I encourage you to try again with a trauma-informed therapist who has the knowledge and training to assist you safely.
If you have a referral from a GP and a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) you will be eligible to receive a Medicare rebate per individual session for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. If you have private health insurance that includes psychological counselling as extras cover, you may be eligible for a partial rebate. It is recommended that you contact your individual insurance provider for further information about your individual coverage.
My practice is based in St Ives on Sydney’s North Shore, next to one of the most spectacular national parks in Sydney. Personally, I don’t think there’s a nicer place to get the support you are looking for.
I understand that you have work and life commitments that might be holding you back from getting into therapy and I have great news for you. Whilst I won’t work late into the evenings, I am available for weekend appointments.
I believe that the best therapy happens with face-to-face sessions. Only established clients, who usually meet with me in the office, can occasionally conduct sessions by telephone or video platform to help meet their needs and maintain momentum when meeting face-to-face is not possible.
Of course, you can. I understand that this is a big investment in hope, time and money for you. I’m happy to spend some time with you on the phone to ensure we’re a good match.
Consistent with practice recommendations for trauma-focused therapy, I prefer to offer 80-minute appointments, rather than the standard 50 minutes. It is my firm belief, and experience, that in trauma work a ‘therapeutic hour’ (which is actually 50 minutes) does not allow enough time to access, reprocess and successfully contain the traumatic experience.
My preference is to work with you on a weekly or fortnightly basis. It is also not unusual for me to see a client 2 times a week if someone is really struggling. It all depends on your resources and how fast you want to move forward.

When making a booking online – a deposit (50% of the total) will be necessary to secure your booking. The balance is due at the time of your appointment, where you can pay by EFTPOS credit or debit card. Fees are inclusive of all taxes.
Given that it’s a face-to-face meeting, please give me a minimum of 48 hours’ notice in order to reschedule an appointment. Your deposit is non-refundable and, in the case of you rescheduling a session, is valid for 30 days.
